In 1880 plans were submitted to parliament for the Cambrian Coast railway in North Wales to be extended from Pwllheli to Port Dinllaen on the west coast of the Lleyn peninsula. The railway was never built but if it had been , Rhyd-y-Clafdy, 3 miles west of Pwllheli, might have been the first station. This then was the basis for the layout.
Features common to many of the stations on the line have been incorporated on the layout such as station buildings and facilities, mostly scratch built. The scenery is based on the actual location with the back scene printed out from a panorama of photographs of the area. Trackwork on the scenic section is SMP.
The layout is operated to a sequence reflecting a typical day’s operation on the line during a summer in the early 1960s. Apart from the everyday coast trains working to Portmadoc, Barmouth and beyond, there are also trains from Bangor via Afonwen. Included are Butlins holiday specials, the "Cambrian Coast Express", "North Wales Land Cruise" and the movement of LMS 6203 "Princess Margaret Rose" for display at Butlins holiday camp.
